We started out clearing houses and moving furniture. Three years on we’re also the delivery crew for local trades and the warehouse behind a designer’s install day — same trucks, same people, three different jobs.
Young Bucks & A Truck started in 2023 with one idea: help people haul away what they no longer wanted. The name is a nod to Sam Ahonen’s three young boys, and a reminder of who he was building it for.
There was no truck at the start. The first client came from Sam’s day job in business development, and the first crews were former Randolph-Macon teammates who had trucks and the strength to load them. Evenings and weekends turned into a business on customer service and hard work, and every dollar went back in until it bought a truck and the equipment to do more than haul.
After that it was word of mouth. The requests grew, the team grew, and customers started asking for more than a cleanout: the move itself, deliveries for their business, somewhere to keep furniture until install day. At the start of 2025 Sam left his career to run the business full time. It’s still family owned, and we still answer our own phone.
Owner
I started Young Bucks & A Truck with a simple idea: help people in my community haul away their unwanted junk. With three young boys at home, the name was a witty nod to them — and a reminder of why I wanted to build something meaningful.
I didn’t own a truck when I landed the first client; my background in business development got me that. Fortunately I had played college football at Randolph-Macon, and several former teammates were still in the area, had trucks, and were strong enough to help me get the business off the ground.
What began as a weekend and evening side business grew quickly, on customer service and hard work. I reinvested every dollar back into the company, which let me buy a truck and the equipment to deliver a higher level of service. From there, momentum took over. Word spread, requests increased, our team expanded, and we followed the market into related service lines.
At the beginning of 2025 I stepped away from my career and took the company full time. That let me focus on the foundation: strengthening how we operate and putting down a real footprint in the community.
We value the partnerships we’ve built with local companies, and I don’t take lightly what it means to be let into someone’s home and trusted with their belongings. Keep delivering exceptional service, keep working hard, keep hiring people with high integrity — and I’m confident about wherever the market leads us next.

Not values on a wall. These are the ones customers actually notice.
If something slips, you hear it from us first rather than wondering where the truck is.
Floors, doorways, banisters. Our crews spend their days inside finished homes and they work like it.
On a cleanout we separate what someone else can still use and run it to donation. It takes longer. It’s the right way round.
No packing, no plumbing, nothing structural. You’ll get a straight answer rather than a crew who figures it out on your time.
We’re a local company and we’d rather stay one. That said, we’re not going to turn down a move to Roanoke because it’s outside a circle on a map.
